RSHE

RSHE (Relationships, Sex and Health Education) is as a spiral curriculum, meaning that students can build on previous knowledge and skills each year. Citizenship is also taught as part of RSHE.

With an emphasis on life skills, students learn about six areas – ‘Self-awareness and identity / managing feelings’, ‘The world I live in / The UK and international organisations’, ‘Healthy lifestyles’, ‘Changing and growing / relationships’, Principles and values / citizens and voices’, ‘Self-care, support and safety / media and free press’.

Students learn age-appropriate content and skills, using the stage not age curriculum to ensure learning is scaffolded in a way that enables them to progress.

Some students will progress to study for a GCSE in Citizenship studies, which includes more focus on political participation, the UK’s role within international organisations, identity and active citizenship.

We also come together as a school to participate in RSHE days, whereby students follow a different timetable in order to hear from external speakers, take part in workshops and learn about RSHE in an active way. So far, we have had visitors from Healthy Schools, the police, fire service, Terrance Higgins Trust, Tackle Africa, first aid providers and School of Sexuality Education.
